John E. Leland DDS
Dr. Leland is a graduate of Houston Baptist University (1976), University of Texas Dental Branch at
Houston (1980), and a General Practice Residency at Sheppherd AFB Regional Hospital (1981). He is a
Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry since 1981, which is an organization whose mission is to
promote continuing education through accredited seminars and courses in all areas of dental education.
Dr. Leland also holds certification in Nitrous Oxide/Oxygen and intravenous sedation with the State of
Texas. This expertise has greatly enhanced his practice by offering his patients greater comfort during
restorative and surgical procedures.
Dr. Leland has also completed a Preceptorship in Dental Implantology (1994-1995) from the University of Texas Health Science Center - San Antonio.
He is a member of the American Dental Association, the Texas Dental Association, the San Antonio District Dental Society and is a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry.
He and his wife, Robin, have been married for 34 years and they have two adult children. Dr. Jessica Leland Cantu, M.D., age 28, is in her Ob-Gyn residency in Houston and is married to Marcus Cantu. Marcus is a physical therapist working for Harris County. Dr. Jeremy Leland, D.D.S., age 29, is in an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency here in San Antonio and is married to Sarah who is in sales administration. Jeremy and Sarah are the proud parents of 2 year old Emma Grace, who is just precious!
Along with being very dedicated to his family, he is an avid salt-water enthusiast. He is an avid bay fisherman along the Texas coast, from Matagorda Island to South Padre Island. He also continues to surf in the South Padre Island area many weekends. If you want him to run behind schedule at the office, just start talking fishing or surfing.
Dr. Leland is active in charitable dentistry in El Salvador, going for a week every three months. He has recently donated a 39-foot motor home equipped as a two-chair mobile dental clinic to the Universidad Evangelica de El Salvador. He will be working with the faculty and students of the university providing out reach dental ministry to the rural areas of El Salvador. While he is there he surfs the 'east coast' of El Salvador at a well know surf spot known as Las Flores.
Our Staff
In the front office, we have Lupe Delgado. Lupe has been a staff member for over 25 years. Although she
is a certified dental assistant and dental x-ray technician, her primary duties include scheduling treatment
appointments, making financial arrangements and insurance claim processing, preventive recall appointments,
receptionist, and many other front desk duties. In addition to her many professional skills, her warm and
friendly personality helps our patients to feel welcome and comfortable in our office. Lupe was born and
raised in San Antonio. She and her husband, Roland have been happily married for many years. They are raising
a teenage son, RJ, who keeps them very busy.
Also in the front office is Sherry Leeper. Sherry has been a staff member for over 12 years. Her primary
duties are telephone management, appointment scheduling, accounts payable and receivables, and helping Lupe
with all front desk activities. Sherry is also a certified Dental Assistant and x-ray technician. Her fun
and bubbly personality makes patients feel at ease when they come to see us. Sherry has lived in the San
Antonio/Bandera County area for 12 years with her husband, Jamie and their two sons, Josh and Nick. Both
boys keep her very busy too.
Teresa Frandsen has been our full-time registered Dental Hygienist for over 14 years. Not only does Teresa
perform her clinical skills in a technically exceptional manner, she does so with tender loving care. Her
genuinely sincere desire to help her patients keep their teeth and gums healthy is obvious to all of us. You
cannot help but like her. Being a friend with your hygienist is vital to an ongoing continuing care program
in a dental office. Teresa and her husband, Doug, are the proud parents of 3 children and 4 grandchildren. Ask
her about them and she is proud to talk and show photos.
The pretty faces(they prefer the term beautiful) on the left side of the dental chair are our certified dental
assistants and x-ray technicians. They are Liliana Fankhauser and Elise Diosdado.
Liliana has been a staff member for 4 years. She is a native of Panama but has been a US citizen for 16 years (we like to tease her about her accent).
Elise has been with us since the beginning of 2008. Dr. Leland met Elise at a volunteer dental clinic in our area and asked her to join our team. She has been a real joy to get to know. Both Lilliana and Elise are so well trained that they know what Dr. Leland needs before he asks for it. They are efficient, kind, gentle and professional. Their knowledge and skills in infection control, as well as technical skills in dental procedures insure a safe environment as well as clinical expertise for our patients during their dental procedure.
We also have an in-house dental laboratory manned by Karin, a Certified
Dental Laboratory Technician (CDT). Although we have worked together for
several years, she has been "in-house" since early 2007. We are truly
blessed to have a lab technician on site and you will be too. Karin is
originally from Germany, however she has lived the last 30 years in the U.S.
